MY MORNING JACKET // LOUISVILLE, KY

After releasing their tenth studio album, My Morning Jacket came home to a sold out show at The Louisville Palace.
The crowd welcomed the Louisville-native band in their first of five shows back in their hometown on April 25. There were cheers as they walked out on the dark stage, and as the lights came on, the music erupted and the audience shot to their feet where they didn’t dare to sit for the rest of the show.
The band’s five-night run at The Louisville Palace titled “Come Home Again” was billed as a celebration of the city of Louisville and its music. Each night promised a different set and opener for the band.
Each night a different show entirely.
The first lifted off with Lacey Guthrie and her band who quickly made it apparent that the rest of the evening will be nothing short of an electric circus of sound and light. The hypnotic rhythm of her music accompanied by her ghostly vocal put the crowd right into orbit and made it clear that it was going to be a great night.
When My Morning Jacket took the stage and the rest of the theater filled to completion, they took the entire crowd to church. The people took to their feet and put their hands in the air singing along with the music, and danced along with the ebb and flow of the room.
Throughout the night, the band played a few of their signature songs and a few tracks from their new album “is” which was released on March 21. The audience was already singing along to every word of “Time Waited.”
One of the biggest highlights of the evening is when lead singer, Jim James, re-introduced Lacey Guthrie to the stage to sing a haunting and beautiful duet of Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away.” There were two other notable covers from the first night; Carol King’s “I Feel the Earth Move” and Joe Cocker's “Feelin’ Alright.” Both gave the feeling that the band was just playing what they wanted and they were glad to be home.
My Morning Jacket delivered nothing short of a religious experience at The Louisville Palace on April 25 and the first night was just genesis.
