Nostalgic Bliss: Planning For Burial Returns

One man band and Pennsylvania native Thom Wasluck returns after an 8 year hiatus with his first single off the upcoming album It’s Closeness, It’s Easy. Wasluck’s solo project, Planning For Burial, teases ahead of the album release with the song “A Flowing Field of Green” and frankly, if 90’s grunge and the ideology behind big life revelations had a baby, this would be the stinger that brings you back!
Listening to this single brings me back to the days of Alice In Chains with booming high gain guitars and a thick auditory layer of wide ambience to bed this incredibly raw track. If this is any indication of what the rest of the album is going to be like, I’m in for the long haul. Why? Because Planning For Burial just gave us a time machine. I remember walking around St. Mark's Place in downtown Manhattan in the early 90’s and visiting all the random shops while blasting my discman (that’s a portable CD player for you youngin’s) to bands like Bush, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. “A Flowing Field of Green” is the nostalgic experience I didn’t know I needed.
In keeping with the raw DIY format that Wasluck has stuck true to over the years, he also releases Planning For Burial creations on floppy disks and cassette tapes. Now, even though I have nothing to play those mediums on, I still might get a hold of those just to make my inner high school self happy.
It’s also worth noting that although there aren’t many lyrics to this song, they’re to the point and highly relatable for anyone having a deep moment of introspection. Personally, I find it refreshing to have a song like this released in 2025 with strong 1992 vibes. I can get down with this middle-age mantra and space out over a cold beer.
Planning For Burial is due to release the album It’s Closeness, It’s Easy on May 30, 2025 so get your pre-orders in and join me on this trip! You can also catch Wasluck on tour this summer at a city near you.
